What makes something gender neutral? Is is the packaging? Is it the ad campaign associated? Is it the object itself?
For a long time beer has been associated with men, but this tie does not mean women do not enjoy it equally. In most societies it is socially acceptable for men to drink, even to the point of intoxication, while the same behavior would not be thought of a "ladylike." There is an extensive history in various parts of the world where the pub, was even off-limits to women, a custom that didn't end that long ago. So it will be very interesting to see how Carlsberg's new campaign fairs, with the introduction of a new beer called Copenhagen, which is being launched with "gender neutral" packaging and messaging. Currently women make up one-quarter of the beer market, with this new design change those figures?
